What to Expect
Comprehensive Assessment
Every new patient begins with a thorough clinical assessment – a detailed conversation about your symptoms, injury history, daily activities and goals, followed by hands-on movement screening, functional testing and where appropriate, diagnostic ultrasound imaging. We take the time to build a complete picture before any treatment begins.
Evidence-Based Treatment
Our physiotherapists use a combination of proven clinical techniques tailored to your specific presentation, including:
- Joint mobilisation and manipulation
- Soft tissue therapy and myofascial release
- Dry needling and acupuncture
- Therapeutic taping for support and pain relief
- Shockwave therapy to accelerate tissue healing
- Diagnostic ultrasound for real-time structural assessment
- Pain education and nervous system regulation strategies
- Breathing pattern and postural retraining
Rehabilitation and Exercise Prescription
Effective physiotherapy does not stop in the treatment room. Your physiotherapist will design a progressive, personalised rehabilitation programme – incorporating gym-based exercise and strength work, clinical Pilates, and where appropriate, advanced rehabilitation technology including Hytro blood flow restriction training and Compex electrical muscle stimulation, to rebuild strength, restore movement and reduce the risk of recurrence.
Compex units are available to hire for use at home, supporting your rehabilitation between sessions.
Integrated Pathway to Performance
For patients ready to progress beyond rehabilitation, our physiotherapy team works closely with our clinical Pilates instructors, osteopaths and personal trainers to provide a seamless transition from recovery to optimal physical function. Objective performance testing using VALD technology ensures your progress is measured, your programme is evidence-based, and your return to activity is safe.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy helps to relieve pain, restore movement and optimise body function when affected by musculoskeletal pain or disability – problems related to muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, joints and nerves. It promotes injury recovery, corrects movement dysfunction, manages pain and educates patients about long-term health. The aim is to restore confidence in everyday tasks, enhance physical performance and support longevity.
What does a physiotherapist do?
Physiotherapists assess and treat pain conditions, sports injuries and musculoskeletal dysfunction. Once they have identified the root cause of the problem, they facilitate the healing process and progressively restore pre-injury function through exercise prescription, clinical Pilates, manual therapy, shockwave therapy, dry needling, diagnostic ultrasound and patient education. They will also refer to other services such as imaging, specialist physicians, pain management or psychology, where appropriate.
How long is a physiotherapy appointment?
Appointments are available in 30, 45 or 60-minute slots. We recommend a 45 or 60-minute initial appointment to allow adequate time for a thorough assessment and the beginning of your treatment plan.
What should I wear?
Wear clothes you are comfortable moving in – shorts and a loose t-shirt or vest are ideal. If your issue is related to running or sport, bring your trainers as your physiotherapist may carry out a movement or running assessment. Changing room and shower facilities are available at all clinics.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can self-refer directly. For self-funders, book online or contact our front of house team. We work with Bupa and AXA and directly bill both insurers. If you are insured with another provider, book a self-paying appointment and we will provide an invoice or receipt to reclaim from your insurer. For any queries, contact our team on 0203 985 1500 or info@mayfairhealth.co.uk.
Can physiotherapy help with back pain?
Yes. Back pain is one of the most common presentations we treat. Because the spine involves vertebrae, discs, facet joints, ligaments and muscles, back pain requires a tailored approach that addresses the underlying cause rather than managing symptoms alone. Treatment may include exercise therapy, soft tissue release, joint mobilisation, dry needling and patient education to restore movement, reduce pain and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
Can physiotherapy help with sciatica?
Yes. Sciatica — leg pain radiating down the back of the leg caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve — responds well to physiotherapy. Your physiotherapist will identify the source of nerve irritation and use soft tissue release, joint mobilisation, exercise therapy and activity modification to reduce symptoms and address the underlying cause.
Can physiotherapy help with arthritis?
Yes. Physiotherapy can significantly improve joint stiffness, muscle weakness and pain associated with arthritis through exercise therapy, soft tissue release, mobilisation, acupuncture and taping. Your physiotherapist will also provide education on how to manage your condition and maintain function long term.
Should I see a private physiotherapist?
Private physiotherapy offers shorter waiting times, longer appointment duration and a more hands-on, personalised approach than is typically available through the NHS. At Mayfair Health, every member of our team is committed to delivering a premium service — an accurate diagnosis, a bespoke treatment plan and the clinical expertise to help you achieve your health and performance goals.

I had a very positive experience with Adriana P. She is a knowledgeable and attentive instructor, with strong expertise in pregnancy Pilates. The exercises were always appropriate and well tailored, but what I appreciated most was her genuine care for how I was feeling, she constantly checked that I was comfortable and adapted each session to my needs on the day.
