Achilles Tendinopathy Treatment in London

Condition

Achilles Tendinopathy

Achilles tendinopathy is one of the most common and most frustrating overuse injuries affecting runners, athletes, and active individuals. It has a reputation for being slow to resolve, but with the right diagnosis, the right loading programme, and the right clinical guidance, excellent outcomes are consistently achievable. At Mayfair Health, we have the expertise to get your Achilles back to full strength.

How we Help

The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscles to the heel bone and is subjected to enormous forces during walking, running, and jumping. Achilles tendinopathy refers to a breakdown in the tendon’s structural integrity, typically caused by a sudden increase in training load, inadequate recovery, poor biomechanics, or a combination of all three.

It presents most commonly as pain and stiffness at the back of the heel or mid tendon, often worst first thing in the morning or at the start of activity, easing as the tendon warms up, then returning after exercise or the following day. Left unmanaged or incorrectly treated, Achilles tendinopathy can become chronic and significantly limit activity.

Insertional Achilles tendinopathy, affecting the point where the tendon meets the heel bone, is a distinct variant that requires a specific and carefully tailored approach, and is something our clinicians are highly experienced in managing.

Effective management of Achilles tendinopathy is built on accurate assessment and evidence based progressive loading and not rest alone. Our clinicians assess tendon irritability, calf strength and endurance, lower limb biomechanics, foot mechanics, and training load to build a complete picture of the factors driving your condition.

Treatment centres on a structured, progressive tendon loading programme, the most robustly evidenced approach for tendinopathy rehabilitation, combined with manual therapy, biomechanical correction, footwear guidance, and a carefully managed return to full training.

We understand the temptation to push through or return to activity too quickly and work with you to balance recovery with the training demands that matter to you.

We recommend starting with a comprehensive 60 minute assessment. You will receive a clear explanation of your tendon’s current state, a structured loading programme, and realistic milestones for your return to full activity.

No GP referral required. Available across all clinics.
